Psy 201

The article that I read is titled, Introduction to the Special Section: Perspectives on Sibling Relationships: Advancing Child Development Research. It explains how children go through life dealing with issues related to how siblings are defined in a world of increasingly diverse family forms and multiple cultures and to the unique role of siblings during the transition to adulthood.

From what I gathered from it, the way children develop, is altered by the way they are raised and treated by as they put it, “Siblings”. Which I can relate to, I grew up with two older brothers, a younger brother, and an older sister who were mean to me. So in return from their behavior towards me, I started showing signs of the same gestures they showed me. I had to go through counseling for it which helped a little, but not much. I know that they way I was treated as a kid, has made it to where I don’t stick up for myself, I don’t talk about what is bothering me, how I feel inside, and how I interact with others. I have always had a hard time fitting in with people, and other kids would look down on me, which made it hard to be a kid. Most of the time while at school, I’d sit on the hill during recess by myself and watch the other kids. It made for a lonely childhood.

I chose this topic because it fit my childhood. Everything that was discussed in the article, I thought back to my childhood. If I had to write a research paper on this topic, I wouldn’t use this article. They lacked a lot of information that would have improved the article. To me, there just wasn’t enough to read. If I’m going to be reading about something like this, there needs to be more for me to read, instead of a few lines.
