Sandwich Blitz, Inc. is looking to expand their business by either securing capital to open more company-owned shops or to franchise locations. Dalman and Lei need to explore these options but can’t seem to find the time to do so with all their other responsibilities as shop owners. Delegating the task of investigating different options to the location managers might be a favorable option for them to consider.

How would creating a new position between the CEO and the location managers help the business to grow?

Having more “hands in the fire” certainly can’t hurt. By delegating responsibilities to the capable location managers, Dalman and Lei can concentrate on other parts of their business that they may have been neglecting by spreading themselves too thin. The more focus that can be put on other aspects of their business that may have remained static over time, the better chance the business has of growing.

Is promoting an existing manager the best option to fill this position?

Assuming the manager is capable of running the business as it currently stands, I think promoting within the company is an advantageous move. Lei has already made mention to the fact that the location managers have done a great job for the company. As discussed previously, the Behavioral Approach from the early 1900’s emphasizes the importance of employee needs. Building confidence within the company can have a positive outcome for everyone involved and can even be incentive to other employees to work hard, knowing they company promotes within.

Who within the company should make this decision?

Dalman and Lei should make the initial decision as owners of the company. However, having the right management team in place under their authority who they can review their decisions with before making a final one could be beneficial to everyone involved.
