Introduction

The forthcoming analysis of Global Communications will reflect upon the many influences on the global telecommunications market and the affects those influences have on the present state of the company as well as the required actions needed to positively effect the future of the company as a whole, and it’s numerous stakeholders. By close examination of the company’s present state, and its future vision, we will observe, and analyze the gap created between the two states and develop a strategic plan that will minimize this gap and move Global Communications into the lead of the telecommunications race for global majority share.

Situation Analysis

Issue and Opportunity Identification

The technology surge beginning in the 1980’s has had a profound impact in the world of telecommunications. What was once regarded as “a luxury for the favored few only and not as a great public utility” (The American Telephone Journal, 1903, p. 281) has now evolved into the world’s mainstay of communication. Advances in technology meant that we were no longer bound to the communication of voice only, we could now communicate transmit television and computer technology as well through those same lines. Technology however, seems to always throw a curve ball into what seems a solid game. With the invention of cable and satellite communications Global Communications was now faced with rapidly falling stock prices which could force the company out of business unless changes were instituted to combat the loss of value which was driven by the consumer need for more streamlined communication packages.
