INTRODUCTION

COMPANY BACKGROUND

Restoration & Reconstruction Systems (R&R Systems) is a small company specializing in residential restoration and renovation. R&R Systems specializes in all types of insurance restoration such as water and fire damage repairs, remodeling, energy efficiency solutions, painting and exterior remodeling services. Today, the company’s “bread and butter” remains insurance restoration and reconstruction. Changes in the economy, in the insurance industry, and in consumer preferences have altered the way R&R Systems does business. No longer is it enough to simply use technology in the company as the “grinder,” where IT is expected to play a tactical role, providing basic IT services at low cost (Cramm 2010). The key challenges for R&R Systems today and in the coming years are as follows: (1) the evolution of the restoration industry, (2) the changes occurring in the insurance industry, (3) and the changes in consumer behavior and preferences.
