Due in Week Three: For your selected scenario, describe the key elements of the Disaster Recovery Plan to be used in case of a disaster and the plan for testing the DRP.
1 Risk Assessment
1 Critical business processes
List the mission-critical business systems and services that must be protected by the DRP.
Keeping the computers running
Meeting formal and informal service-level agreements with customers and suppliers.
Being proactive rather than reactive.
2 Internal, external, and environmental risks
Briefly discuss the internal, external, and environmental risks, which might be likely to affect the business and result in loss of the facility, loss of life, or loss of assets. Threats could include weather, fire or chemical, earth movement, structural failure, energy, biological, or human.
• Some natural events that disrupt business include earthquakes, fires, floods, mudslides, snow, ice, lightning, hurricanes, tornadoes, explosions, chemical fires, hazardous waste spills, smoke and water damage power outages caused by utility failures, high heat and humidity, and solar flares. Any of these events can cause a business to lose lives and money and can place a business in serious jeopardy. Some internal and external risks caused by man can do the same and include the following, strikes, work stoppages, walkouts, sabotage, burglary, and other forms of hostile activity, and massive failure of technology including utility and communication failure caused by human intervention or error.
