When I was asked to pick something important to me, the first idea that came to mind was how important my grandparents have been throughout my life. Soon after I was born, my parents decided I should be raised by my grandparents in India. Growing up I can remember them doing everything for me and raising me to ultimately be the person I am today. I know it wasn’t easy for them to give me the attention I demanded because I wasn’t the only grandchild they were raising. My cousin was also the same age as me and my grandparents raised us both. Most of my cultural knowledge and background has come from my childhood years in India. I was taught at an early age how to speak my native language as well as the importance of my Indian culture. I can remember many childhood memories and I can recall my grandparents by my side through each one.

After four years, my parents decided that it was better I have an American education so we all came back to America. At first it was a difficult concept to grasp that my grandparents were grandparents and my parents were these strangers I thought I had never seen before. Slowly I began to understand the mind behind the madness. My parents had decided what was best for me and that was to be sent to my country to be raised by my grandparents. Currently my grandparents are still very much involved in my life. There are many times and situations when I feel it is easier to talk to my grandparents and get their advice filled with wisdom. My grandparents make it a point to be involved in my life during important occasions such as birthdays and graduations. They have and will always have a special place in my heart. People say that what you learn in your early years will remain with you forever. What I learned is that my grandparents are a special part of my life and will remain with me forever.
