Abstract

This paper will discuss the findings of the environmental scan and economic analysis for ATT wireless. The author will refine the analysis of the forces and trends of ATT Wireless and give a forecast based on the economic factors that will affect the market of the company in the next five to ten years. The author will look at the remote, industry and operating environment to give a competitive analysis for ATT Wireless. The strengths and weakness of the company will be identified from the SWOT analysis and a strategic plan will be identified.

Environmental Analysis

ATT is considered to be the United States largest wireless provider, with locations worldwide. ATT Company’s motto is, "More bars in more places, while having the world's largest and fastest 3G network” (ATT.com, 2009). The telecommunication industry is large and many companies claim to have the best service and are competing with its competitor for the same market base. “According to Att.com, the company currently has over 77 million customers nationwide and is dedicated to providing customers with wireless technology designed to enrich their lives” (Att.com, 2009).

Most company’s strategic plans are based on factors that contribute to the future and current position of the company that lie within the aspects of three environments; remote, industry and operating. The Remote environment consists of five factors which are economic, social, political, technological and ecological (Pearce & Robinson, 2004). The Industry Environment is composed of five sections as well, which are entrance barriers of new competitors, supplier and buyer power of the organization, the ability of substitution within the organization and the competition of rivalries within the organization’s current market structure (Pearce & Robinson, 2004). The Operating Environment consists of the following five factors; competition, creditors, consumers, labor and suppliers (Pearce & Robinson, 2004).
