Obesity
Obesity has become a concern for many people in the United States. In previous decades, the topic of weight is prevalent among people. Not many people are completely satisfied with their weight. They are always looking for ways to improve their physical appearance. We require food to grow, reproduce, and maintain good health. Although we need food to survive, many people consume too much of the wrong type of foods, like chips, cookies, and cakes. These types of food lead to the body putting on weight. There are several solutions that can be taken to prevent obesity such as having a balanced diet, exercising regularly, and government’s role of educating the public.
The leading cause of obesity is one’s eating habit. An ordinary person should practice a diet that consists of an average of three to four meals a day. Obesity occurs when a person consumes more than the ordinary diet. An obese patient consumes double the portion of a meal. The consumption of food by these patients usually contains a high level of calories, carbohydrates, sugar, and fats. These elements are the main factors of obesity (Henderson, 2009). Adding to this, they nibble on snacks and light food all the time. This act may not seem harmful but the regular and continuous consumption makes the portion of intake large.
One way to prevent obesity is by exercising regularly. The modern lifestyle has made people to become lazy. People have to work tighter schedules. They prefer fast food restaurants, which is high in calories, instead of cooking well-balanced meals. When we take in food with more calories than we need, the excess calories are stored in the body in which turns into fat. Exercise regularly can help to burn excess fat and improve blood circulation, allowing better blood flow and decreasing the pressure on the heart, therefore, obesity can be prevented.
