Business Communication Trends

This assignment seemed to point directly at me and my experience as an individual. So I found this assignment incredibly difficult to write from anything other than a first-person point of view.

The first question asked of me was, “What role does business communication play in your day-to-day work activities?” In order to answer this question I have to inform my readers of what my day to day work activities are. I'm an unemployed mother of three and full-time student. Seems like a mouthful, and you ask “what could this woman know about business mitigation?". I do have some previous experience working in an office. I was the office manager for a company called Shred Tech, LLC. In order to hold the position of that stature within the company, I had to be informed about the company. I obviously was practiced a variety of examples for good business communications. I composed billing statements for customers who maintained an outstanding balance with us. I handled payroll, scheduling for all employees. I dealt directly with customers whose company situation called for an upper-level employee of the company. Most of the communication techniques I used were verbal in nature. I did not have the pleasure of working with programs like Microsoft PowerPoint to create presentations taking a more nonverbal approach. I currently am unemployed however; I am still learning and utilizing business communication in my educational environment as well as my home and family life.

Most of the communication regarding business I conduct at this present time in my home and daily is strictly on the level of survival. I speak with banks, bill collectors, landlord, and vendors for purchases and on a more personal level my family. I miss that communication takes place via telephone, social networking sites, e-mail, letters, and text messages. All these forms of communication are digital in nature but still verbal.
