Mission Needs:- A software-programmable and hardware-configurable digital radio system is required to provide increased interoperability, flexibility, and adaptability to support the varied mission requirements of the warfighters.

Process Name 1 - System Requirements

This can be achieved by JTR System which lays the foundation for achieving network connectivity across the radio frequency (RF) spectrum and provides the means for digital information exchanges, both vertically and horizontally, between Joint warfighting elements, while enabling connectivity to civil and national authorities.

The JTR System shall be capable of supporting secure and non-secure voice, video, and data communications using narrowband and wideband waveforms.

Each JTR Set shall provide any designated operator with the ability to load and reconfigure its modes/capabilities via software while in the operational environment to meet varying mission needs.

JTR set hardware will confirm to space and weight constraints of host platforms as applicable to radios the JTR set will replace.

The JTR System should satisfy the requirements common to the three domains that coincide with operational missions and environments: Airborne, Maritime/Fixed, and Ground.

JTR set should be easy to operate, redundant, secure, networked, demand adaptive and more survivable than the current generation of analog radios and stovepipe networks. JTR system must be easily maintainable and operable, incorporating the principles of modularity and commonality.

JTR set should be multi-mode; multi-band; open architecture; digital interface and control;

software reprogrammable; modular (hardware and software); scaleable and

flexible form factor; frequency agile/demand adaptive; compatible with

existing service communication systems; integrated software reprogrammable crypto/infosec.
