1. Research Design

2.1.1. Research objective

The research and methodology enables critical evaluation of factors discussed in literature review (namely poor management, recession/financial crisis, documented history, underestimating financial requirements, retaining ownership, risky business and funding assistance available) in order to identify the relevant and application of those factors in literature review and in reality.

2.1.2. Research Methodology

The proposed research is developed from qualitative research tool. With the purpose of go deeper into issues of interest; we have conducted face-to face & in-depth interview and communication through email with our chosen participants as our research methodology.

a. Questions

This research is contained 5 questions combined for the Bankers and 9 questions combined for the small business owners/managers. The questions will be answered based on the opinions and own experiences of participants to find an answer for the question: “Why are small businesses often under-funded?”. And

b. Sampling

Five participants – four small business’s owners/managers and one manager of Commonwealth Bank, for the interview have been identified. The four companies expect of Commonwealth Bank, are satisfied with small business criteria. These participants are:

* Carols Chong is a franchisee of Domino in Essendon, Melbourne. Owner is 27 years old. He obtained loan from bank and just started this business on his own in this year. He took over the Domino in Essendon and plan to open on 24th of September, 2012. He has employed 10 staffs, and 2 to 3 staffs working within one shift.

* Cyd Toh is a store manager of Telechoice in Ringwood, Eastland shopping centre. He is 31 year olds. He has been working as a manager position since 2008. Telechoice is selling mobiles phones and provide mobile plan services to customers. The store has totally 8 staffs who work on a day-today- basis.
