In today’s world information system is expanding in ways we only could dream of. Information Systems is an input, process and output using software and hardware. Input is a way of gathering and capturing raw data. An example of this if a job requires a monthly mileage report you must first enter mileage used daily or weekly to get a total of the month. Process is the gathering of the raw data and converting it to be used in the output. An example of process is the adding up of all the mileages. Output is the information you receive from the input and the process. An example of output is the total of mileage for the month on a mileage report.

At the company I work for information system is used in different ways. I work for the local cable company and information system is a key ingredient to the system, from the customer service to the technician. When a customer calls in the customer service input there name or phone number and the system process this and pulls up the customer’s account which would tell the customer service rep. all of the information about the customer such as address, past issues, current balance and what level of service the customer has. On the operation department stating with my supervisor, it give them the ability to look up specific job by location or by what technician did the job. By the supervisors doing this way it is a good idea what has been done only if the technician input previously everything he did. With a technician we have limited access to a customer’s account, I do understand for privacy reason with social security numbers, but we are also limited to seeing what issues the customer had beyond a few month. We cannot make any major changes only input what work we have done and that is limited. Many times we do more work than what we can input so who ever pulls up the history would not see all that was done.

The system at work has many ways it could be improved that would help better serve the customer. I cannot talk for...
