Yearbook Exam: Prompt One

The theme of the yearbook “Through The Eyes of a Buckeye” has a little to do with every student, organization, and employee at Gilmer High School. I have actually encountered a few times where I have thought of the theme and put it to good use.

Think of all the athletes we have here at the high school, all of the cheer and dance girls, the drama students, the artsy-craftsy students, the debate students, the band students, and the list goes on and on and on…..most of them make fun of each other but really, truthfully know nothing about each other because they’re so busy in their own Cliques/groups, but in the end they all have one thing in common…. They are ALL part of the Gilmer student body. Lets say a student that’s a part of the athletes crowd thinks about the theme and says hey, maybe those kids from debate might not be that bad and try to put yourself in their shoes, try to look through their eyes, and think about why you made fun of them or treated them differently just because they weren’t exactly like you. Just because they weren’t a Gilmer athlete. When you think about it they are seeing “Through The Eyes of a (different) Buckeye (student)”.

Now think about all of the staff we have here at Gilmer High School. There are many teachers, custodians, coaches, the office staff, etc. Some of the math teachers think differently about the math teachers and vice versa. Some teachers think the coaches got it easy, but really they don’t. Mostly all of the teachers work with the same about of difficulty and effort, but don’t seem to realize it. But I honestly think they all need to try and put themselves in each other’s shoes, try to look through each others eyes, and think about why they ever though differently about each other. When you think about it they are seeing “Through The Eyes of a (different) Buckeye (staff member)”.
