Cosmic Creation Myths across Cultures

For centuries there has been the question of who the world’s creators were and how the world was created. This is the big mystery that surrounds the minds of most everyone. There have been ancient narratives or passages written over time about how the world was formed. Different cultures have creation myths describing ways in which each feels about how their existence came to be. They tell these stories throughout their generation and this sets the stage for how they come to believe in these myths. Myths are described as a guess to how and when our world was created and how the beings on earth came to be. “Many creation myths depict the birth of the cosmic order as an organic, natural, and/or evolutionary process rather than as an engineering project or the act of a master magician” (Leonard & McClure, 2004). Creation myths tell of any destroyers or destruction that was or is for seen in the eyes of each culture. Different creation myths also tell of cosmic occurrences or natural phenomena that occurred. Each creation myth has similarities and difference in their creators, creations, the steps of creation, and the cosmic elements.

The ancient Egyptians believed in many different gods and goddesses. Each God had their own role to play in maintaining peace and harmony across the land and in representing elements and parts of the earth. The Egyptian creation myth speaks about the god Atum who created himself out of a world of darkness. He was neither male nor female. He joined with his shadow to produce a son and a daughter. Atum’s son was God of the air and his daughter was the goddess of mist and moisture. Then they together produced other God’s such as Earth, sun, rain, wisdom, justice, evil, and the protector of the dead. The creation Myth goes on to say how the son and daughter later became lost making Atum sad. As his tears fell to the earth they created man. The sky, earth, and under world are represented in this myth....
