Spacely-Cogswell Manufacturing History
In October 2010, the Spacely company merged with Cogswell Manufacturing to create Spacely-Cogswell Manufacturing. The Spacely company specialized in their production of sprockets and Cogswell Manufacturing had their cogs. In July 2011, they used each other’s talents to come up with a new device, the automatic gear shifter for bicycles. It is known as the Grifter. It is uniquely and carefully constructed out of the combinations of sprockets and cogs to create a design like no other. Since the emergence of the Grifter, the product has been introduced and sold in bicycle stores, various sporting goods and general merchandise stores that include bicycles in their repertoire. It has met with limited success because the public views it as a moderately expensive unknown accessory ($45 retail) that seems complicated to install. It’s also a fairly new product that still hasn’t gotten its due attention.
Strategy
In addition to the products Spacely-Cogswell Manufacturing make, mainly the cogs and sprockets, they need to enter the bicycle manufacturing business where their product uses the newly developed Grifter. There will be a huge demand for these bicycles and the best selling point is its effortlessness and user friendly nature, which gives it the ability to accommodate a larger, more diversified group. This distinction will make the Spacely-Cogswell Manufacturing bicycles the best choice for the majority of bike riders and potential bike riders.
Creating a bicycle with the Grifter installed on it will satisfy the needs of the riders that never bother changing gears because they either don’t know how gear ratios work and don’t know which way to...
