Part I

Discrimination: The denial of opportunities and equal rights to individual and groups because of prejudice or for other arbitrary reasons.

Institutional discrimination: A denial of opportunities and equal rights to individuals or groups, resulting from the normal operations of a society.

Political Correctness: using words or behavior which will not offend any group of people.

Part II

How is discrimination different from prejudice and stereotyping?

Prejudice refers to negative judgments and/or views about a group that is formed without any knowledge, thought, or reason. A stereotype is a(n) (often negative) generalization about a group based upon samples that do not represent the group, in which the generalization becomes so well-known, it becomes a “conventional image” for the group in question, often accepted as truth by the illogical bunch. Stereotypes could be and is a form of prejudice if they are negative generalizations, which they usually are. Discrimination is the act of excluding a group from some right, privilege, or service *based upon* prejudice and stereotyping. All of these are similar in many ways but different in a lot of ways too. All to me are very harmful no matter how it is put. There nothing positive that can come out of these. One can hope and pray one day.

What are the causes of discrimination?

Negative and misinformed judgments are the cause of discrimination. Discrimination is caused by a number of reasons, one of which is learned starting at home and the behavior that is observed from others. If you grew up seeing discrimination practiced by your parents, you will probably follow the same mind-set and pass it on to your children.
