Background of Hong Kong Exhibition Services Ltd.

Since 1981, Hong Kong Exhibition Services Ltd. (HKES) has staged a number of successful shows in Hong Kong and China, providing full and professional exhibition services. They have developed a wide-ranging portfolio of general and specialized exhibitions, making them one of the leading show organizers in the region. We organize HOFEX, and the Food & Hotel China exhibitions as well as shows in various categories including packaging & processing, woodworking, electrical engineering, automation technology and security.

The Interview

We manage to invite one of the Senior Project Executive during her lunch break to give us an idea of what her job is all about. From our interview, we found that this is not an easy job, and it involves in travelling all over Hong Kong to meet clients to carry out presentations, proposals, and negotiation to potential exhibitors. As a result, work hours are unstable and the job itself is physically demanding. She also needs to do exhibitor promotion by cold calls and emails, and manage on-site event schedules and coordination.

What we’ve learned

From our interview with the Senior Project Executive from HKES, we found that this job requires a lot of people skills, which she has develop over her visits with clients. We have also learned some negotiation skills from her past experiences. Presentation is also important in her line of work; there are various ways to present yourself in front of different types of clients. Presentation skills are an important aspect in marketing as it is pretty much done every day in the marketing industry. Learning this skill would allow me to be more flexible in presenting myself in front of clients that I meet in the future.
