Introduction of Amy

Amy has a daughter that is seven and a twin boy and a girl that are age five. Her husband works long hours and Amy worked in the professional field until the twins were born. Amy is an attractive, social, and a well-organized person, however she feels very insecure and worthless about herself. Amy was an only child. Her mother was an alcoholic and her father passed when she was ten. Amy took care of her mother, cooked and cleaned due to her mother’s excessive drinking. Amy feels guilt that she was the reason her father had died and her mother bean drinking. When Amy got married she was expecting things to be perfect. Her husband’s long hours, his lack of time for the children became a stress in Amy’s life. Amy began to drink to numb her pain and disappointment, and began to interfere with her home life. Amy, a mother of three is going through a difficult time and is the need of a assessment and possible treatment plan to help her come over her addiction to alcohol. We will look at the question on how to intervene with Amy and then develop and proceed with an assessment. We will then develop a treatment for Amy and her continued care.

Assessment

In order to help Amy we need to go a complete assessment of her and her back ground. There are many components that can contribute to getting an overall look at the strengths and weakness that are causing the reason for drinking. In Amy’s case the Michigan Alcohol screening assessment test, also known as the MAST would be used as the first step in diagnosing Amy’s problem. The MAST is a 25 item inventory of drinking habits that is simple to administer and score. It takes about 10 minutes. (Fisher and Harrison 2009) After assessing Amy we determine there is a pattern of substance abuse and Amy needs to be referred to the next step.
