QUESTIONS FOR WEEK 1

The three dimensions of business problems are Organizations, People and Technology. I will describe this further.

The Organizations are the Company using the Information System. I company that has bad business system acquired from the past, the unknown environmental changes, Political in fighting would be if the higher ups had issues and were unable to come to an agreement. Both the organization and IS change one another to make the whole process run smoother and work for the company.

People problems include weak management, poor communication skills, lazy trainers for new employees .Here’s a good example imagine, if you just came to a business as a new employee and the trainer never taught you the correct way to lock up, when the senior manager watches you one time and tells you that you’re doing it the wrong way and you get wrote up. You didn’t know any better that was what you were taught.

Technology problems would be when your IS was out of date, or the system software has a problem “talking” to other computers or printers. You could solve the problem but only at a cost to the company.

The difference between IT and IS, is the IT is only the hardware and software for an IS it is not the complete system it is just the starting point. There are several other components that make up an Information System. Collecting data, processing storing and distribute information. To make an IS work you must include the dimensions of People, Organization, and Technology. Without all of these working correctly your IS will perform poorly. Each is important in it’s own way. The IS collects data, processes it in to useful information, stores the information for use later, and distributes it to the correct departments and applications.
