CASE BACKGROUND

* Working More Hours: More than 31% of college-educated male workers are regularly logging 50 or more hours a week at work, up from 22% in 1980.

* Long-Hours Premium: Over the past 15 years, real pay for a 55-hour workweek rose by about 14%, but pays virtually no increase in real pay for 40-hour workweek.

* Less Sleep: 40% of American adults get less than seven hours of sleep on weekdays, reports by National Sleep Foundation, up from 31% in 2001.

* No more sit down meals with others: About 60% of them are sometimes or often rushed at mealtime, and one-third wolf down lunch at their desks, according to a survey by American Dietetic Association.

* Communication Overload: To avoid wasting time, they’re talking on their cell phones while rushing to work, answering e-mails during conference calls, waking up at 4 a.m. to call Europe, and generally multi-tasking their brains out.

STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM

1. Is it necessary to come up to the point that you work so hard but then you sacrifice your lifestyle?

3. How to deal with technology properly to make one’s job/work easier and minimize stress?

ALTERNATIVE COURSES OF SOLUTION

1) Absolutely “No”. We have to separate our work to personal life. Maintain balance.

2) Time pressure really affects the performance of employees due to the amount of stress it produces, like meeting deadlines.

3) Do not depend too much on technology.

4) Have a proper schedule of the tasks you will do. Either according to the deadline or priority.

CONCLUSION

* Stress is a great factor affecting the performance of employees. Based on the case, technology tends to contribute stress. Though globalization and internet create new opportunities, they also increase the intensity of competition and generate more work....
