According to MSN Company report BP is an international oil and gas company. The Company operates in more than 80 countries, providing its customers with fuel for transportation, energy for heat and light, retail services and petrochemicals products. The Company operates two segments: Exploration and Production, and Refining and Marketing. Exploration and Production’s activities cover three key areas. Upstream activities include oil and natural gas exploration, field development and production. Midstream activities include pipeline, transportation and processing activities related to its upstream activities. Marketing and trading activities include the marketing and trading of natural gas, including liquefied natural gas (LNG), together with power and natural gas liquids (NGLs). Refining and Marketing’s activities include the supply and trading, refining, manufacturing, marketing and transportation of crude oil, petroleum and petrochemicals products and related services.
BP Competition
According to Morningstar analyst report it states that BP's valuation carries more uncertainty than ExxonMobil's XOM or S hell's RDS.A due to potentially large post-spill liabilities. BP's less integrated business with more upstream than downstream earnings also left it more vulnerable to oil and gas price volatility. Like its peers, a sustained drop in oil and gas prices can hurt upstream earnings. Lower crude-oil feedstock costs could help refining margins, but refined product pricing lags could quickly swing refining profits to losses. BP's global business faces potential disruptions caused by political risks, particularly with its heavy exposure to Russia. Disruptions caused by oil spills or environmental and operational constraints could further limit earnings potential (Milostan, 2010). Below will illustrate a chart of BP’s competition.
