1. What kind of paper is the National Enquirer?
The National Enquirer is well-known as a tabloid newspaper based out of Florida. The National Enquirer is known for emphasizing, dramatizing, and sensationalizing issues mainly pertaining around celebrities but also around the world on any subject from news, gossip, crime, and make-believe. The National Enquirer is known for inadequate news, the company emphasizes on subjects to attract the public regardless if their information is right or wrong. In my opinion, whatever is easiest to make a quick buck is the reason behind the saddening success of this business. The credibility of the newspaper is not a worry at all in the writers eyes.
2. Was it ethical for the National Enquirer to try to avoid suit in California?
With Shirley Jones residing the California and in this particular situation, Ms. Jones was single-handling picked at by the National Enquirer. Considering the paper is sold world-wide and pin-pointed a particular person, it was unethical for the National Enquirer to try and avoid a suit in California. If the company is going to sell their products world-wide, they need to face up to any consequences that may come up. In this situation, the National Enquirer wants to keep their shares up and investors clear of any damages that may occur from this case, so their best bet is to try and avoid the state of California. Then again if they feel as if they are clear of any allegations then they should be able to face the plaintiff without any issues in the state of California.
3. Are the defendants subject to suit in California? Why or why not?
In this case, Ms. Shirley Jones suffered a lot of embarrassment due to the National Enquirer subjecting her image with lies. A lot of issues and situations could have occurred that could have made things a lot worse off than just...
