Fiber in your body plays a very important role in helping a person’s digestive system to regulate itself, and cholesterol is always brought down and lowered with the help of fiber. There are many examples of food sources that contain dietary fiber including any type of green vegetable such as broccoli, greens, and Brussels sprouts another good source of fiber would be things such as brand cereal, oatmeal, and bread that is made from whole wheat.

Soluble fiber can be made to dissolve in water and Insoluble fiber will not dissolve in water. Water is attracted to soluble fiber and it will form a gel like substance, and will result in slowing down ones digestive system. Insoluble fiber is considered to be a diet that is gut healthy because they tend to have a laxative type affect which can aid in reducing constipation. I did not realize that fiber played such an important role in your body in help to prevent constipation. I will be eating more foods that contain fiber in order to maintain a healthy lifestyle. Fiber intake for children is as follows. From 1-3 years of age 19 grams of fiber and 4-8 years 25 grams, from 9-12 years of age 26 grams for a female and 31 grams for a male. For children at the age of 14-18 it is recommended that females get 29 grams and males 38 grams of fiber, for adults the fiber intake is 14 grams of fiber for every 1,000 calories consumed.
