Once upon a time there was a little girl that had to go to the doctor because she wasn’t feeling very well after losing some of her blood when she fell down on the play ground while she was swinging. The doctor said that her circulatory system wasn’t functioning properly and that she needed to go to the hospital right away for a blood transfusion. When figuring out what kind of blood she needed the doctor’s took the time to explain to her everything they were doing, how her circulatory system was suppose to work, and just what the circulatory system works in general and what makes it up. He began by telling her that there was 4 things that made up her blood: Red blood cells, White blood cells, Platelets, and Plasma. He explained that the circulatory was her heart and all the veins that it sends blood to so that her body can continue to function and keep her alive. He then went on to say that by sending only one drop of her blood to be tested he could tell her what type of blood she had. The little girl responded by asking “what types of blood are there” The doctor told her that there were 8 different possibilities of what her blood could be: A+, A-, B+, B-, AB+, AB-, O+ or O-. The little girl ended up being O- , the doctor then told her she had special blood because she could give her blood to anyone on the planet and she could potentially save a life like someone had just done for her. He finished the lesson with her by telling her that if she would have had AB + blood that she could have had any blood that they had in the hospital. The little girl went home so excited about all the new information that she had learned that she went back to school the next day to show off her new knowledge to her friend who then wanted to fall off the swing set so that they could find out their blood type just like her. :)
