All Men Created Equal

The physiology of a human being is what distinguishes man from beast. Human beings are superior entities in comparison to animals, because human-beings have the ability to think logically and have been granted the ability to choose between right and wrong. One must wonder where the concept of superiority and inferiority come from. Throughout history man has chosen to make distinctions between each other based on nationality, race, religion, and even culture. Thereby, creating a disparity between people based on race and culture. Many atrocities have occurred because of this insane way of thinking; that race or culture plays precedence in any person’s intellect or ability. This way of thinking has even transcended into gender issues in which woman was looked upon as inferior to man as well. The term “all men are created equal,” is a baseless saying because history has shown us time and again that people of color are still fighting for true equality.

The Declaration of Independence says that “all men are created equal.” This is in great contrast to the actual practices of the United States at the time that this document was drafted. When this declaration was written the United States was country riddled with racism and injustices. Africans and Black Americans were not considered human; they were regarded as property or chattel. In the writing A Copy of a Letter From Benjamin Banneker he states,
