How does the poor leadership of Peter Johnson affect the management performance and operations of the company?

The main problem in the Elite Electric Company case was the poor leadership style adopted by Peter Johnson to manage his subordinates in the Massachusetts Plant. Successful leadership requires behaviour that unites and stimulates followers toward defined objectives in specific situations. Effective leaders make others feel good about themselves as well as the work they are doing. The leader should have a vision of what he wants to achieve and can communicate that vision to others in a way that makes people want to be part of it. But Johnson, as the operation manager or the leader, he lacks the ability or traits that a good leader must possess that leads to breakdown of communication and cooperation among his subordinates, lack of motivation and which may result to the business to not operate on its full potential.

People naturally want to follow a good leader where they will feel uplifted, inspired and motivated to work towards a common goal. Leader’s subordinates also need specific answers to problems being told and proper instructions from them to fully work at their best. If the followers are not satisfied with their needs that they must get from their leader, they tend to lose their motivation and not cooperate well with other subordinates.

As an expert said, meetings are an effective way to bring people together to increase communication effectiveness and achieve results. There should have proper decision-making, well discussions and sharing of knowledge, proper communication styles and appropriate feedbacks. But in the meeting of the managers lead by Peter Johnson, it was shown that they don’t meet the criteria of having a sound and well-organized management due to ineffective leadership portrayed by Johnson.
