UNEMPLOYMENT RATE AMONG THE GRADUATES IN MALAYSIA

The problem we are facing today is the increased in unemployment rate among the graduates in Malaysia is due to graduates being unmarketable. Unemployment is when there are people in our society who desire to work but are unable to obtain in because the fact that there are enough jobs for everyone. The graduates who are unemployed in this generation are known to be irresponsible and not commited to their job because they believe that they are still financially supported by their parents.

The first reason why the graduates in Malaysia are unmarketable in our country because they demand high salary while they are lack of experience in their particular field. This is acceptable because the living expense in our country has experienced a drastic increase.The property value of the commercial and residentials areas has increase. This will increase the expenses of the basic needs such as food and rent. Due to this reason, employers rather hire foreign workers to work for them because they demand for a lower salaray compared to local graduates and they are more hardworking. Besides that, fresh graduates also do not have a good profiency in english. Employers rather hire graduates who have worked before and with a good profiency in english because this will increase the effectiveness in communication with other staffs.

The next reason is because the quality of education has improved. There are more students now obtaining straight A’s in SPM and this will increase the number of students obtaining first class honors and this group of students will be the target of employers. The rest of the students are left unemployed and lifeless. The graduates who study abroad is given priority for employment in Malaysia. Malaysian graduates are regarded as less qualified compared to the students who studied abroad which is not necessary true.
