The ANT and the EAGLE: GOD’S CREATURES ARE GOD’S TEACHERS

Often in scriptures, God uses His creatures like the ant and the eagle to convey important messages and help us to better understand what He wants us to grasp. In our studies, do we ever think about their relevance when we come upon them? Because these creatures are in God’s word, there are lessons that we must learn from them whether they are to teach us what to do or not to do or how to be or not to be in our daily lives.

Beginning with the ant, there are two verses in scripture that specifically mentions the ant—Proverbs 6:6-8 (read) and Proverbs 30:25 (read). Both verses specifically mention ants preparing their food in the summer for the winter. In the winter, ants hibernate. So in the summer the workers forage or work to store food for the winter. They work hard in the preparation so that when the time comes, they can rest from their labors. What we can learn from these verses is that ants prepare for the future, for what is to come and are not lazy. We must remember from John 14: 2 that Heaven is a prepared place for a prepared people, and we must work and prepare to get there (read again). A recurrent theme in 1 & 2 Thessalonians is Paul warning against idleness knowing not the day when Christ comes…likewise we must do the same. We cannot get there without putting in the work.

We must also be like the eagle. There are several characteristics that we must learn from the eagle. Eagles are known for incredible vision/discernment/judgment when it comes to them finding their prey. They have the keen ability to see obscured prey flying @ at altitude of 1000 ft over open country over an area of almost 3 square miles in a fixed position. Like the eagle, we must have good vision/discernment in making decisions that require us to see in the distance. Philippians 1:9-10 states...(read).
