David Christopher, Orthopedic Surgeon Case Study
Case overview:
Dr. Christopher is a surgeon who runs his own orthopedic clinic. He & one other surgeon perform surgeries every morning for 5 hours a day, 4 days a week for a total of 20 hours each week. They also like to keep a 10% (2 hour) safety capacity for any unexpected problems with scheduled surgeries and emergencies. We are looking to analyze to see that the surgeons have enough time to properly & safely perform all their procedures during their morning surgery time.
Learning Objectives:
* Use capacity measures to examine current surgeon workloads
Orthopedic Surgery Procedure | Surgeon Changeover Time (minutes) | Surgery Time (Minutes) | Surgeon Identity | Demand (No. of Patients Scheduled Weekly) |
Rotator cuff repair | 45 | 45 | B | 2 |
Cartilage knee repair | 45 | 30 | B | 1 |
