Reliable Pharmaceutical Service: Strategic Planning

Abstract

As operational as most companies are, they have to have strategic planning in order to maintain operational functionality. Most business organizations invest considerable time and energy in completing strategic planning that typically covers five or more years (Satzinger, Jackson, Burd, 2011). During the strategic planning process, executives ask themselves such fundamental questions about the company as where the business is now. Information systems, strategic planning sometimes involve the whole organization. In the following essay, the strategic plan for Reliable Pharmaceutical Service will be discussed.

Application architecture is a description of the integrated information systems that organizations need to carry out its business functions. One major need of application architecture is the flexibility to change itself when the environment or functions of the business changes. For example: process changes or the changes in the Information Systems area. In order for Reliable Pharmaceutical to evolve over the next five years, the company should focus on certain departments. The areas/departments of focus would be Development, Distribution, Planning, Human Resources and Production.

As described in the text, Reliable Pharmaceutical is a privately held company started in 1975 in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Reliable have grown over the years, accepting orders from patients in facilities where they deliver every 12 hours. They now have service in Santa Fe, Las Cruces and Gallup with deliveries at an all-time high. However, there are some challenges that the company is facing.
