For my ISP creative writing assignment, I have chosen to do an interview to portray my personal understanding of the novel, The Joy Luck Club. It was a difficult task for me to choose between my top three choices. In the end I had to weigh out the pros and cons before making this final decision. My top three choices consisted of a comic book, poems, and the interview itself. I really liked the idea of a comic book as I was excited to put a picture to the story but felt I wouldn’t be able to put in the much needed effort to complete the book due to the lack of time I possess. With designing the characters, summarizing important parts of the novel in little speech bubbles, and the endless colouring that it may involve, I felt that the task of a comic book would prove to be too overwhelming. It was now down to the interview and the poems. My issue with the poems was that I wouldn’t be able to complete all eight poems and reflections. I find myself to be a very picking person when it comes to writing poems. I love to write what I feel and would love the opportunity to showcase the wonderful story of The Joy Luck Club in the format of poems but I just don’t think that I am up for the challenge. Over the past week, my interest of writing poems for this creative writing assignment has just diminished. This left me with the interview. I think that this is the best choice for me as it combined a bit of the poems and comic book together. I can still get creative with the magazine layout that is required yet still get to display the novel’s story through the words of an interview. With this being the best choice for me personally and time wise, I have chosen my final choice to be the interview.
