In today’s society people think of a whistle-blower and picture a happy person skipping down the street whistling tunes, but in the business world a whistle-blower is a totally different term. Whistle-blowing occurs when an employee provides certain unethical information to the employer or an important figure such as an attorney, about illegal issues erupting in a company that may involve the public. Understanding their rights about whistle-blowing can make an individual feel more comfortable when in an intense situation that abrupt at work. Described in the paragraphs are different examples and concepts of what a whistle-blower may face in the workforce if they feel that their moral perceptive on things caused them to blow a tune or two.

1. Do you believe that whistle-blowing is good for organizations and its members, or is it, as David Stetler believes, often a means to extort financial gains from companies? I believe that whistle-blowing is great to have in a company as long as the employed is being honest and proper about the information he or she is providing. Making up scenarios to gain financially would just be flat out slander towards a company. Whistle-blowing at work can cause other employee’s to look upon one as a snitch or something of just greed. David Stetler also has a point when he mentions that “whistle-blowers can become as unethical as the companies that they are blowing the whistle on” (N. Weinberg). Some whistle-blowers may stretch the truth for profit. In today’s society whistlers are coming out like mosquitoes’ in the summer. An employee by the name of Doug Durand came forward to toot his horn about TAP Pharmaceutical Products in 1995. He began to suspect the company of conspiring with doctors to charge Medicare for free medication they were receiving. By the time it was said and done he received 126million from the government.
