Re: Jiminy Peak Mountain Resort Wind Turbine Project – Nicknamed ‘Project Zephyr’
Background
From September 17, 2012 through September 24, 2012 Ontario, New York-based Sustainable Energy Developments, Inc. (SED) conducted impact and feasibility studies regarding the proposed placement of a 1.5 MW-capacity wind turbine on the western shoulder of Jiminy Peak at a cost of $3.9 million. SED has determined that there is ample wind on Jiminy Peak’s western facing ridge to warrant installation, and recommends that the turbine project succeed based on all factors reviewed. The project has been named ‘Zephyr’ after its definition of ‘a gentle, mild breeze’ or ‘a western wind.’ The project is slated for completion by March, 2013 and will have approximately a 30-50 year design life, although the tower, foundation and interconnection equipment is estimated to have a far longer life. Based on its findings, SED recommends that Jiminy Peak is a suitable location for a wind turbine, and believes the placement will benefit the Mountain Resort and surrounding community.
