Executive Summary

In this assignment, we are discussing about how the changes of Starbucks which we compared before and after the acquiring of Schultz in 1987. At first, Starbucks was found in 1971 by Jerry Baldwin, Zev Siegel and Gordon Bowker. During that period of time, it called Starbucks Coffee, Tea and Spice but they did not sell coffee in cup as they just offer sample of coffee to the people to try. The owners has failure in managed the Starbucks as they make several mistakes like failure in retaining talented employee, failure in fulfilling employees’ want and failure in accepting employees ideas which then lead them to failure. It then leads Schultz to buy over Starbucks in 1987, and he changed the style of management and makes several changes to bring Starbucks to the successful pathway. Today, Starbuck is the world’s leading brand in the specialty coffee industry

Introduction

Starbucks was founded by Jerry Baldwin, Zev Siegel and Gordon Bowker in 1971 and called Starbucks coffee, tea and spice in Seattle’s Pike Place Market. It did not sell coffee in cup but offer sample of coffee for people to try. It did not consider as a success company and it did not make as much profit as today. They did not listen to employee’s idea and lack of communication with employee, the financial issue also limited their ability to expanse.

Starbucks becomes the world leading retailer of roaster and brand specialty coffee in over 30 years after Howard Schultz’s acquisition. He always thinks about the customer first and listens to their opinions. This can be seen from Howard Schultz worked with store employees to help customers to learn about their coffee by improving customer-friendly sales skills. Starbucks objective is to establish Starbucks as the most recognized and respected brand in the world by provide the best coffee to their customers. The corporate culture of the company encourages employees to share and create a happier and healthful environment....
