The Left Hand Of Darkness Commentary Essay

Although the author of this book called “The Left Hand Of Darkness”, Ursula K. Le Guin has said and discussed with the press and critics that the introduction of this book its not extraporative or that it gives any prediction of the future, the plots that are shown and the reader gets to read are extraporative to some extent. Now Since the story takes place in the past and I’m not saying that a regular past, we are talking of an Ekumenical year (Referring to the book) 1490-97, this book is different from other regular science fictions which stories take place in the future, talks about starships, and we have monsters all over and usually its always in the outer space. However, the issues that the author dealed with in the book are a prediction of the future, and it’s trying to tell you that it can happen. Guin has also claimed in the book that “if I could have said it non-metaphorically, I would not have written all these words, this novel” Her metaphoric settings and words confuse whether or not our world is natural, just the way it is. Le Guin has been respected by critics both inside and outside of science fiction genre and by the general reading audiende. She was the first female writer to build her reputation within the science fiction world.

Since Guin tried to set the story in the past, she had to use an extraordinary imagination, if you read the first chapter you can see that its really hard to get into her world, what she tries to put into your mind, from the first chapter. “Winter, Hainsh Cycle 93, Ekumenical year 1490-97” that’s the way Guin introduces the story pulling the readers into the very first chapter with mysterious and mythic worlds even beyond any imaginative worlds. She explains her imaginative worlds in every detail every once in a while, explain whats around, what surrounds the character, the feelings that catch you...
