Turkish Toleration

Turkish toleration is very unique. I have never heard of another belief system tolerating another. This surprised me a little bit, but as I read the handout, I understood why this worked for the society.

Turkish Toleration was the one of the best attributes of the Ottoman Empire. But Turkish toleration came from religion and the practical outlook, and I agree with both. I thought it was interesting that the people of this religion wanted the “outsiders” to look different than them. The other thing was that people who lived in their community could not ever attempt to become Islam. In certain places, other religions were also restricted in doing some things. One of the most important special regulations was the tax that was put on the Christians and the Jews. This special tax was not paid by the Muslims.

This idea of toleration is very smart. I think that this caused the government to make more money because of the special tax that was put on the other people that were not Muslim. Also, I think that they instilled this because there was no place for other religions to go, so they decided to some and be part of the Muslim group. This is because they allowed other religions and this tax was better than dying. I completely agree with this idea of toleration and think it was very smart and economical at the same time.

I think that the tax was a good and bad idea. It was good because it showed the others that lived there and were not Islam, that Islam was the best religion. That is not what I think but I think that was the message that they were trying to communicate. I think it was bad because they were not being open about their religion. Instead, they were saying that no one of another faith that lived in that area could convert to Muslim. This is not showing openness to other religions.

In conclusion, I think that this was a extremely smart and economical idea that the Muslim Turks invented. This was very smart because they taxed...
