Asthma and Immunology has identified peanuts as the culprit of most food-allergy deaths, which seem to be increasing. 5. Leafy green vegetables are among the riskiest foods as they easily spread disease-causing contaminants introduced by improper food handling and contact with unclean substances or waste material. 6. While the stalks of the rhubarb, a plant long hailed for its medicinal properties, may be eaten safely, its leaves can cause poisoning whether eaten raw or cooked. 7. The US government advised consumers to eat only small amounts of tuna as the fish was found to contain levels of mercury high enough to damage the nerves and the heart. In addition, consuming the fish may also lead to illness caused by poor storage of the fish. 8. Cassava can kill consumers if it is improperly prepared. The American Cancer Society adds to this warning that consumers allergic to latex rubber might be at higher risk to this threat. 9. Burns from spilt hot coffee is now another liability of drinking the beverage after an elderly customer successfully sued a fast-food restaurant in the US for millions of dollars when she was scalded by very hot coffee that burnt parts of her body. 10. Consuming mushrooms can induce hallucinations as well as death.
