PREPARATION OUTLINE

Purpose Statement: To inform my audience how dependent we become to GOOGLE

Thesis Statement: To understand the power of GOOGLE, the importance to what GOOGLE is, the difference among other search engines, and how it contributes to the modern world generation.

Introduction

Attention Getter: Lets take a moment and imagine a time where having an unlimited amount of information not being available at the stroke of your fingertips. Imagine a time where doing research entailed going to the library and searching through a card catalogue. Imagine a time when discovering new places meant watching the discovery channel. Imagine a world without GOOGLE! Dun dun dun. Hello my name is Patricia Baez and I will be discussing the power of GOOGLE, differences among other search engines, and its contributions to the modern world.

(Transition) So what is GOOGLE some may ask.

I. GOOGLE is a search engine available on the world wide web.

A. GOOGLE was once known as BackRub, a search engine that was created by Larry Page and Sergey Brin as a research project.

B. BackRub became a search engine at Stanford and operates on Stanford server for more than a year.

a. The search engine takes up too much of the schools bandwidth to suit the school.

b. The name GOOGLE is born. Larry and Sergey decided to go with GOOGLE which is a play on word “googol”, which is a mathematical term for the number represented by the numeral 1 followed by 100 zeros symbolizing the infinite amount of information on the web.

II. So now that you know what GOOGLE is, why is it the top search engine utilized.

A. GOOGLE is one of the top choices among other competitors.

B. Among these competitors is YAHOO, BING, and ASK.

a. All these search engines provides information available to the user at the stoke of their fingertips.
