ENERGY DEBATE

My position on this issue is that that United States should decrease its dependence on oil and invest in alternative sources of energy. The web sit for Gale opposing view points (2012) has many interesting facts about oil. Approximately one-billon dollars a day is paid for oil that comes from over seas. This leaves our country vulnerable to terrorist threats. We are supporting countries that area threat to us. Even if we were to dig for oil here this will not solve this problem. We do not have enough oil here to last. The countries with a greater preserve control the global supply such as Saudi Arabia. We also need to think about the damage digging here will have on animals and the environment. I have a few perceptual blocks that hinder my thinking on this subject.

I am an animal lover so right away that is the first thing that comes to mind. This first of all makes me look at this, as no way I do not even want to hear about digging of shore in the United States. I also have concerns about oil spills and feel this is opening up more chances for this to occur. My perceptual blocks would cause me not to fully hear what the other side has to say and make my own opinions right away before knowing the facts. This is called thobbing when someone thinks the opinion that pleases them and then to believe it without the facts. I do not have all the facts on this subject and my opinions still was to go with an alternative energy. There are steps I could take to learn how to be more open-minded and learn more about this energy debate.

Wanting to become a critical thinker would be the first step for me to take. If I were a critical thinker I would have the tools to stop myself from this reaction be more open-minded and not let my perceptual blocks and habits hinder my thinking.
