Motivation can be defined as internal and external factors that stimulate desire and energy in people to be continually interested and committed to a job, role or subject. They are three key elements essential in the definition of motivation: energy, direction and persistence. Energy can be defined as a measure of intensity or drive. Direction is efforts that are directed and consistent with organizational goals. Persistence is putting forth effort to achieve goals. In the business world, motivation helps to enhance ways towards organizational goals and efficiency in organizations. Managers need to find ways how they will motivate their employees such as positive feedback, offering rewards, improving working conditions and employee recognition.

Firstly, employees can appraise themselves on how they are doing with positive feedback. Negative feedback can cause employees to lose focus and lower their self esteem. Moreover, this will cause the employee to be depress and unproductive and here is where the dilemma start. When a manager gives an employee positive feedback the employee feels good about themselves. They will recognize they are on the right path and will continuously yield better work. Positive example Meisha, an employee at Phone Shack has done her monthly report on the business one week before due date. Her manager opens the file and looks through it and smiled and tells her “you consistently go the extra mile.” Meisha sure feels good about her accomplishment and this motivates her to continue doing an efficient job.

Also, offering employees reward highly motivates them. Rewards can be gifts, extra pay, time off or monthly bonus to the most effective worker. Providing rewards can make employees happier and happier employees perform effective and efficient work. This will cause the organization to have productive workers because everyone will work...
