Abstract

The purpose of this paper is to discuss and analyze the cultural perspectives of doing business in Argentina. Argentina and the United States have had bilateral commercial relations for years, even with the downfall of Argentina’s economy in 2001 and the US economy a few years later. This paper will focus on the cultural aspects that affect these bilateral commercial relations, specifically the aspects of communication, religion, family and the hierarchy based within companies. Furthermore the paper will analyze what implications these aspects may have on the United States doing business with Argentina; and how the United States can strategically approach the market when doing international business with Argentina.

Argentina is a country located in South America. Argentina borders Paraguay, Brazil, Bolivia, Uruguay and Chile. The Andes Mountains runs the western border of Argentina. This border is shared by Chile. Argentina and Uruguay are separated by the Uruguay and La Plata rivers. Argentina is 1,068,302 sq mi. Argentina’s population is 40,764,561 residents. A disproportionate amount of people live in Buenos Aires compared to the vast size of the country. Approximately 15.2 million people live in the province of Buenos Aires.

There are six dimensions of culture. The dimensions of culture are communication, religion, ethics, values/attitudes, manners, and social structures and organizations (Satterlee, 2009). Communication, religion, ethics, and manners are especially important in Argentina.
