FACTORS ASSOCIATE WITH KNOWLEDGE SHARING
AMONG NURSES IN MALDIVES
Introduction
This chapter describes and discusses the overall research design with
methodological approaches, such as population and sampling method, research
instrument, pilot study, data collection and data analysis. In general this chapter
covers the discussion on the processes and procedures that were selected to attain the
appropriate analysis for the gathered data.
The main intention of this research is to find the important factors that
facilitate knowledge sharing among nurses in Maldives. To obtain broad and indepth
data, four main hospitals located in the capital city of Maldives were selected.
Respondents were selected from the nurses working in these four hospitals; Indhira
Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH), ADK hospital, Hulhumale’ hospital and
Villingili hospital.
Research Design
This research was guided by the specific problem situation in Chapter 1,
literature review with previous researches in Chapter 2 and the framework developed
for this study. Based on the research objectives and research questions mentioned in
the previous chapters, the survey method was selected. This is one of the most
appropriate methods that can be used for a research containing questions about
beliefs, attitudes and emotions (Gavin, 2008), opinion, behavior and demographic
data. According to Fowler (1988), this method allows the researcher to obtain a
standardized measurement that is consistent across all the respondents and ensures
comparable information about everyone involved in the study.
Since the respondents are in Maldives, other than survey method may be
expensive and time consuming choice for the researcher. According to Babbie (1992)
b, survey research design is highly reliable, low costly and time effective.
