The Contribution of Enterprise Systems

Enterprise Systems are systems that are based on integrated software modules that contain a common central database. The database gathers information, stores the information and then uses the information as it is needed in order to complete business tasks that are vital to the company. These tasks include but are not limited to: public relations, manufacturing, finance, marketing, human resources and accounting. All departments have access to the database as it pertains to their department.

A good example would be a toy store. If they keep the data corrected in the system then the company can see where the money is being made and which products sell the best. If the data is not correct they will not know which products to keep and which ones to get rid of. This will help the company have in stock what the customers are wanting at any given time. The effective management of the data that is put into the system will ultimately determine if a company survives or not.

Some of the challenges would be: if a company does not keep on top of the data it can become outdated and useless to the company. This can hurt the profits of the company and can cause the company to go bankrupt or out of business. Another challenge would be that the company needs to be able to maintain their enterprise systems and keep the systems up and running. If all business information and details are kept on that system it is imperative to any business to keep the system functioning properly.
