Abstract

This paper affords an opportunity to take a penetrating look into a Global Business Cultural

Analysis of the nation of Pakistan. In writing this paper, four research areas and issues were

examined: The major elements and dimensions of culture in Pakistan: how these elements and

dimensions are integrated by locals conducting business in the nation of Pakistan, a comparison

of culture and business of Pakistan and the United States, and finally implications for US

businesses that wish to conduct business in Pakistan.

Introduction

Pakistan is ubiquitous in the news. It has become a nation prominent on the global stage

in recent years. It’s importance to the world as a nuclear, Muslim, pro-Western nation cannot be

overstated. Pakistan is a resilient country that has survived centuries of conflict and outside rule

to emerge as a self-governing democracy. Pakistan’s story is remarkable, as well as the people.

In an era of globalization, questions are present regarding Pakistan’s ability to capitalize

economically on such trends. Issues of security and stabilization have consistently plagued this

people, and those issues are not going away anytime soon. This paper will examine pertinent

areas of thought regarding Pakistan’s business future in this global economy.

Major Elements and Dimensions of Culture in Pakistan

Since the 9/11 attacks by Islamic extremists against the United States, the attention and

focus of the world has been on the Middle East and the Muslim World. Pakistan, bordering

Afghanistan, became an immediate key nation in the Bush administration’s effort to track down

both Al Qaeda, the militant organization responsible for the attacks, and the Taliban, regime of

Afghanistan that harbored Al Qaeda. Pakistan borders Afghanistan to the southeast, and is

potentially the location of Al Qaeda today in the midst of their retreat from Afghanistan during
