The Capital of South Korea, Seoul, is all quiet and calm. The veil of night slowly covered the whole city with serenity and silence. Birds’ chirps echoed in the air while shafts of clear moonlight shone on the asphalt road. At this tranquil moment, everything seemed to be so peaceful.

The sky began to turn dark blue. Kim Kyung Sun, a South Korean border patrol suddenly woke up from his dream. He rubbed his eyes to drive away the disjointed but horrifying scenes from the nightmare those kept appearing in his mind. “It’s just a meaningless dream, no big deal.” Kim murmured quietly to himself, “Those DPRK communists wouldn’t dare to cross the 38th parallel.” But the images from his dream were so realistic. Kim could even see the brutal faces of charging DPRK soldiers clearly. He slowly sneaked away from his bed and sat down on a bench by the window of the outpost.

Kim surveyed the endless plain field from the window. His worried glance stayed on the other side of the parallel. From KBS (A Korean News Channel), he was informed that Seoul, the city he came from, was inside the range of DPRK artillery fire----the most dangerous threat on this planet. Kim lighted a cigarette and tried to forget about the complicated military situations.

Suddenly, a series of deafening boom shocked him. As an experienced soldier, Kim realized that the sound he is hearing came from guns. He quickly lifted his head with fear. There, Kim saw a heavy curtain of artillery fire flitted across the sky, headed toward the Capital of South Korea. The roar of artillery fire and crackle of Machine guns reverberated in the distant field. The combat alarm reminded the ROK soldiers that their home country is under sudden attack.
