Business Ethics

Ethics can be defined as the right or wrong choices a person makes and the importance of work ethics is highly underestimated by the majority of us today. The reasons for this vary from negligence towards certain principles, to greed for better profits, to laziness, to a ‘I-don’t-give-a-damn-about-anything’ attitude. I began working in the ‘80s and right out of college and I have yet to run into the sort of work ethic attitudes Sheehy speaks of in his report. Even my first job for three weeks, at Hardee’s – a fast-food restaurant, at the age of 14, did I not have such poor work ethics as these characters Sheehy speaks of in his report. I have yet to be employed with kids, unethical individuals as of yet; however, that doesn’t mean that I never will as I have many more years to be in the workforce. Fortunately, I have always love servicing and helping people, I guess is one of the reasons why I have chosen to major in Business Administration – Hospitality, to provide guests and people with good ethics, morals and values that I believe that I obtain. I truly believe these kind of values have to be instilled in a person, at a very early age. But today, with so many young people being brought up in households with a difference value system than most of the working class is the reason why we are receiving such bad work ethics. The young parents are not instilling values into their household because many of them do not possess them--unlike the Baby Boomers, Generation X, and many in the Generation Y age born in mid-to-late ‘80’s. Like my two sons, one who just turned 28 and one who is soon-to-be 25…I surely instilled in them the value of have ethics, moral, and values—not only in the home, any and wherever they went—have good character.

I recently read a report where over 36,000 students revealed poor work ethics where 60% of American high school students cheated on a test in order to improve...
