Problem Statement for Kudler Fine Foods
Capitalism is a system that does not guarantee success for every business owner. Capitalism gives businesspeople the freedom to try for success, and it gives the opportunity to fail, as well. Business owners like Kathy Kudler enjoy an opportunity to decide what to produce, how much to pay employees, how much to charge for goods and services, and many other decisions in the free market. Kathy Kudler made an investment in her passion for gourmet foods when she established Kudler Fine Foods in 1998. The company expanded to include three locations along California’s coast. However, to continue expansion and corporate growth toward the vision of providing the premiere gourmet one-stop shopping experience, several problems should be addressed.
Learning Team C identified several issues from Kudler Fine Foods’ 2003 Strategic Plan. Discussed issues crossed many business topics, such as marketing, competition, store locations, customer service, inventory procedures and products, and services offered by the company. The three major problems I will discuss as opportunities for Kudler Fine Foods are: Kathy Kudler’s leadership style, the importance of developing a team of individuals with financial planning and reporting expertise, and the importance of implementing a disaster recovery plan for the organization.
I know these topics are problems because of information contained in the Strategic Plan. Details from the Kudler Strategic Plan show an issue in the relationship between the owner’s leadership style and delegating duties to help make progress toward achieving the organization’s goals. Kathy works seven days a week visiting and working at each store daily.
