Understanding and evaluating the arts

Architecture (http://www.walkingmelbourne.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=469) State library of Victoria designed by Bates Peebles and Smart in 1906-11.The state library was for a short time the world’s largest reinforced concrete dome. The dome, which was constructed using the system of steel bar (Kahn bar) reinforcing developed by American Albert W Kahn in 1902, covers a panoptic layout of reading tables and an overseeing librarian, and sits on a classically composed polygonal drum which rises over four levels and is punctuated by arched openings. The reason this is considered a work of art it is a very beautiful building something awesome to look at. This took a lot of energy and precise planning to build and create

Photography (http://www.gallerym.com/work.cfm?ID=99) this photograph was taken by the famous Margaret Bourke-White in 1939. Margaret Bourke-White was the first Western photographer to document Soviet industry after the revolution. In this picture what is shown is the DC-4 plane with 3 wings flying over New York City. This was a very unique picture because the DC-4 planes with 3 wings were limited. Margaret was also one of the first female photographers to be recognized for her work. So I believe this is a great definition of art because of the plane that was caught in the picture was a part of history. It’s also a beautiful sight because the way she caught the plane flying over Manhattan which is always pleasure to look at.
