Prejudice and Discrimination

Anyone who has traveled to several different countries from around the globe will tell you that every region has its own special way about it. Seeing the different cultures and belief systems really opens your eyes and your mind to all the different ways of life that we share on this planet. Although every corner of the globe is wonderful in its own way, it would be nearly impossible to live somewhere that does not show at least a slight hint of racial or cultural prejudice and discrimination. Impossible you say? Follow me as I take you on a six month visit into the heart of Indonesia where a seemingly peaceful place will open your eyes to the truth about cultural differences.
As I arrived in Indonesia, the warm humid air reminded me how close I was to the equator. Easily distracted by the nice weather and terrific scenery, I had to remind myself that I was there to study the different races, cultures, and kinds of prejudice or discrimination I could find. Making my way through several towns and villages gave me the impression that the majority of population was Asian (Indonesian, Malaysian, Singaporean, and Chinese mostly) with a small amount of European Caucasians mixed sparsely throughout the region. At first it was difficult to tell some of the different ethnic backgrounds, but the longer I was there the easier it became to differentiate them. Although there were many different races, I could see that there was definitely a difference between ethnic groups. Many different races that may have come from a different country shared Indonesian beliefs and customs instead of those shared by their ancestors.
Fitting in was not an easy task as I continued my research. It was easy to see that there was an old based prejudice against the Chinese that live in Indonesia. Not knowing much history of this discrimination, I gathered as much information as...
