THE APPROPRIATE STRATEGIES THAT CAN BE DEPLOYED TO IMPROVE NATIONAL PRODUCTIVITY FOR THE PUBLIC AND PRIVATE SECTOR

Most of the successful organizations have good strategies to remain competitive in business and industry. Competitiveness is an important factor in determining whether the organizations is leading the industry, prospers or follower that just survives or fails and subsequently lose its market share and close down its business. Each organization must be capable to compete with others in same industry to sell their products or services. In order to compete with others, organization should develop its own strategies on how to maintain and sustain in the industry on the same time benefits for its future growth. It is the part of the duty of operations manager in the organization to make sure that the organization able to produce higher yields and output with the minimal operations costs. Higher productivity assures effective utilization of resources and efficient management and control over the operations. A key factor to measure the success of an organization is the ability to measure its performance and its processes. One of the process measurements is known as productivity.

According to Malaysia Productivity Council (MPC), the productivity is defined as the relationship between the amounts of output produced and the amounts of inputs used to produce the output. Higher productivity means achieving more with the same or lesser amount of the inputs recourses. Increases in productivity will lead to benefits such as higher standard of living, enhanced competitiveness and better quality of life. Revealed by the 18th Productivity Report produced in May 2011, Malaysia’s journey towards achieving high income economy was gaining momentum as reflected by remarkable leap in its competitiveness ranking from 18th position in 2009 to 10th position in 2010.
